What We Do

Over the years, we have taught thousands of students about everything from the microorganisms in our lakes and streams to stars that lie at the edge of the galaxy.  Hundreds of adults have enjoyed offerings that range from our lecture series to courses in wild plants.

Our involvement in the area’s scientific research projects has allowed us a uniquely personal view of how to interpret the local region. To help maintain the health of the Copper River’s salmon population, WISE partnered with the Copper River Watershed Project to bring Salmon Blitz to our portion of the river. In addition WISE has partnered with the Willow Creek Watershed Consortium to chronicle a waterway that drains an area of over 100 sq. miles. WISE has also worked to bring the efforts of the Alaska Citizens’ Science Project to the area through lectures and field surveys.
