WISE EQUAL OPPORTUNITY (EO) POLICY "WISE is committed to building a diverse community which is inclusive of people from all backgrounds. WISE does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, disability, age, citizenship status, genetic information, marital status, sexual orientation, mental illness, or physical illness. This nondiscrimination policy applies to employees, volunteers, participants, and all aspects of our operations."
GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE If an employee, volunteer, or program participant believes that they have been treated in an unjust or inequitable manner, they are encouraged to use the following steps for resolution.
A complaint may be initiated anytime within 30 days of the alleged discrimination or incident.
Grievances shall be addressed in a reasonable, businesslike manner, in good faith, and with respect to the privacy and dignity of all concerned.
No WISE employee, volunteer, or program participant shall be penalized or subjected to retaliation for filing a complaint under this policy.
Informal: Anyone who believes that they have not been treated fairly under the WISE Equal Opportunity Policy may choose to speak directly to the Executive Director in an attempt to resolve the grievance. If the complaint or concern is about the Executive Director, the complaint may be made to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors. The ED or Board Chair will attempt to resolve the complaint within 10 working days, and report back to the complainant with a proposed solution.
Formal: The informal step may be skipped, and a written complaint submitted to the Executive Director or the Board of Directors Chairperson within 30 days of the incident.
The complaint should be clearly stated in writing, including the date and place of the alleged incident, all pertinent details, steps which have been taken to attempt to resolve the problem, and suggestions on how they would like to see the problem resolved.
A grievance committee consisting of the executive committee of the WISE Board of Directors (Chairperson, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer) will meet with the complainant and others as needed, and keep written records of the meetings.
The grievance committee will propose a solution within 30 days of when the complaint was filed, and convey the decision in writing to all parties.
All information in this procedure shall be considered confidential, and shall not be discussed with anyone other than those directly involved.
Mediation: If the dispute was not resolved, mediation may be used if it is agreeable to both parties. Mediation provider may be US Equal Opportunity Employment Commission or other provider agreed on by both parties.
